KARMANASA RIVER

According to the mythological story, King Harishchandra’s father Satyavrat once expressed his desire to go into heaven with his body from his Guru Vashistha. Guru Vashistha refused to do so. After this angry Satyavrat went to the Vishwamitra and repeated the same desire. Along with this, he also told about Vashistha‘s refusal. Due to enmity with Vashishta, Vishwamitra sent the Satyavrat to heaven bodily through his hard penance. Seeing this Indradev got angry and sent him back to the earth with his head turned upside down. Vishwamitra, however with his penance stopped the king between heaven and earth. In such a situation, Satyavrat got stuck in the middle and was called TRISHANKU.

THE RIVER FORMED FROM THE SALIVA OF THE KING

According to the mythological story, Satyavrat was hanging upside down in the earth and sky amidst the war between the gods and Vishwamitra. Meanwhile, saliva started dripping from the mouth of the king and this saliva appeared on the earth in the form of a river. It is said that sage Vashishtha cursed the king to be a Chandaal. Due to the formation of a river from the saliva of Satyavrat, it was called the cursed river, which people still believe today.
